					DSP&P Cooke 2-6-0 Mogul
				Locomotives

					The Danforth &
				Cooke Locomotive Works,

				located in Paterson NJ,
began operations in 1852. In spite of the 20-year head start
that Rogers had, Danforth & Cooke grew very quickly. Orders for
its locomotives were on the rise through the Civil War and into
the 1880s. The Danforth & Cooke plant continued to operate even
after it was merged into the American Locomotive Company in
1901, along with Rogers and 6 others , Under the control of Alco, it mainly built rotary snow
plows or specialty engines for foreign companies. Danforth &
Cooke's Paterson plant turned out its last locomotive in 1926

				-- more than 3000 steam
				locomotives in all.

This page covers the 8 DSP&P 2-6-0 Mogul locomotives acquired
				from Cooke. DSP&P also owned
				nine 2-8-0 Consolidations from
				Cooke.

HISTORY
			In 1884, DSP&P
purchased eight 2-6-0 Moguls from Cooke Locomotive Works. They were
			numbered 39, 40, and 69 through 74. These became #109 through 116 in
			1885 and became C&S #4 through 11 in 1899. These locomotives
			augmented the nine
			Brooks 2-6-0's acquired in 1882.

DSP&P #74 was the last locomotive purchased by DSP&P. The gap in the
number series was caused two orders for 2-8-0 Consolidations from
			Cooke
			and Baldwin.

The Cooke Moguls had 40" drivers and 14.5x18" cylinders, so were a
little snappier on the flat than the Brooks models with 38" drivers.

C&S
			#9 (ex DSP&P #72) went to the 1939 World's fair with a combine and a
coach and ended up at a tourist railway.
